Rooted in the Scottish Borders
Purple Sage Soap Company began with a love for gardening and a passion for creating beautiful, natural skincare. Our soaps start in our botanical garden, where we grow lavender, sage, calendula and dozens of other plants using regenerative methods.
We believe in the power of plants to nourish and support healthy skin, without unecessary chemicals, palm oil, plastics or compromises. Each bar of soap, each balm. each serum, is handcrafted in small batches with care and intention.
Our dedication to using plant-based ingredients means that you can trust the purity and integrity of our products. You'll experience the goodness of nature without any harsh chemicals or artificial additives.
Our Ingredients:
Olive Oil - Known for its moisturising properties, olive oil is rich in antioxidants and vitamins, making it excellent for helping to hydrate and nourish the skin. It helps to maintain skin elasticity and can soothe dry, irritated skin.
Coconut Oil - Coconut oil is a versatile ingredient that is deeply moisturising and easily absorbed by the skin. It's rich in fatty acids, which help to nourish and protect the skin's barrier. Coconut oil also has antimicrobial properties, making it beneficial for combating acne and promoting clear, healthy skin.
Shea Butter - Shea butter is a luxurious moisturiser derived from the nuts of the shea tree. It's incredibly nourishing and is known for its ability to deeply hydrate and soften the skin. Shea butter is rich in vitamins and fatty acids, making it ideal for helping to soothe dry, sensitive skin and improve skin texture.
Castor Oil - Castor oil is a thick, viscous oil known for its moisturising and conditioning properties. It's used to help hydrate and soften the skin. Castor oil also has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, making it beneficial for treating various skin concerns such as acne, dryness, and irritation.
Natural clays - offer a multitude of benefits for skincare, including deep cleansing, gentle exfoliation, oil regulation, soothing inflammation, tightening pores, detoxifying the skin, improving circulation, and nourishing with essential minerals. These versatile ingredients help to effectively draw out impurities, balance oil production, and promote a clearer, healthier complexion, making them an excellent addition to any skincare routine.
Himalayan Pink Salt - is prized for its numerous skincare benefits, including exfoliation, detoxification, and mineral replenishment. Rich in essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, it helps to gently slough away dead skin cells, revealing smoother, softer skin underneath. Its detoxifying properties draw out toxins and impurities from the skin, promoting a clearer complexion. Additionally, the minerals in Himalayan pink salt nourish and hydrate the skin, leaving it feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Pure Essential Oils - are concentrated extracts derived from plants, each offering unique benefits for skincare. These natural oils are renowned for their therapeutic properties, including moisturising, soothing, and rejuvenating the skin. Producing soap and natural skincare products in small batches offers several benefits:
Overall, producing in small batches allows us to prioritise quality, freshness, customisation, sustainability, and craftsmanship, ultimately delivering exceptional skincare products that our customers can trust and enjoy.
Cold Process Soap Making:
At Purple Sage Soap Company, our approach to skincare is rooted in respect for people, animals and the natural world.
All of our products are cruelty-free and are never tested on animals. We focus on plant-based formulations, using thoughtfully chosen botanical ingredients inspired by gardens, wild plants and traditional soap-making practices.
Where appropriate, we may also use responsibly sourced bee by-products, such as honey or beeswax, chosen for their natural properties and their connection to regenerative growing and local ecosystems. These ingredients are used with care and intention, supporting ethical beekeeping and biodiversity rather than intensive animal agriculture.
Cruelty-free, always
We do not test on animals, and we work with suppliers who share this commitment.
Plant-based at heart
Our formulations prioritise botanical oils, clays, herbs and extracts, chosen to help cleanse, nourish and care for the skin in a gentle, considered way.
Skin-friendly formulations
By focusing on simple, plant-led ingredients, our products are designed to be gentle and approachable, making them suitable for a wide range of skin types, including sensitive skin.
Thoughtful, inclusive choices
Our products are created for people who care about ethical sourcing, sustainability and transparency, whether or not they follow a vegan lifestyle.
Rather than following strict labels, we choose to work in a way that reflects our values: plant-led, cruelty-free, transparent and regenerative.
This allows us to honour nature in all its forms from plants and soil to pollinators while continuing to create skincare that feels good to use and good to support.
At Purple Sage Soap Company, sustainability starts in the soil.
We take a regenerative approach to gardening, growing and sourcing botanicals in ways that work with nature rather than against it. By focusing on soil health, biodiversity and low-impact growing methods, we aim to create ingredients that are nurtured slowly and responsibly, before they ever make it into a bar of soap.
This hands-on, garden-led approach helps us reduce waste, minimise unnecessary inputs and make thoughtful choices about how our products are created.
These principles sit alongside our wider commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and working towards a more responsible, lower-impact way of making, including our longer-term aim of moving closer to net zero.
Thoughtfully made products
Our soaps and skincare are inspired by everyday plants, herbs and wildflowers grown with care. This slower approach helps us create products that are simple, considered and rooted in nature.
Lower impact, fewer compromises
By growing and sourcing closer to home and making in small batches, we reduce unnecessary waste and transport, supporting a more circular, resource-conscious way of working.
Supporting nature, not stripping it
Regenerative gardening helps protect soil health, supports pollinators and encourages biodiversity, helping nature recover rather than deplete.
A better future, built gradually
When you choose Purple Sage, you’re supporting a business that believes meaningful change happens step by step, through practical action, not grand claims.
We don’t claim to be perfect but we are committed to learning, improving and making better choices as we grow. Regenerative gardening is at the heart of that journey, shaping how we create, how we give back, and how we work towards a more balanced future.
Rather than asking customers to add donations at checkout, a small fixed donation from every bar sold in these collections is donated by Purple Sage Soap Company Ltd to causes that reflect the purpose and story behind each range.
This approach allows us to keep our giving thoughtful, transparent and sustainable, while continuing to grow as a small, independent business.
Salt Soap Collection — supporting SSAFA Borders
Aromatherapy Soap Collection — supporting Nurture the Borders
Wildflower Soap Collection — supporting The Scottish Donkey Sanctuary
Charitable donations apply to selected soap collections only and are reviewed regularly to ensure they remain appropriate for a small, independent business.
