PURPLE SAGE SOAP

In the beginning...

a change of direction

Welcome to Purple Sage Soap! A small business crafting plant-based, natural handmade soaps, bath salts, and eco-friendly accessories. I'm all about making high-quality, good-for-you skincare that you'll love for yourself or as a thoughtful eco-friendly gift. I'm super passionate about taking care of our beautiful planet, so all my products are sustainable and come in plastic-free packaging. My workshop is tucked away in the stunning Scottish Borders countryside, where inspiration flows into everything I make. Join me on this journey of simple, feel-good skincare that's good for you and the planet!

About Me

My name is Ann Carter and after living for 12 years in Germany, I moved to the beautiful Scottish Borders in 2020. Here, we bought a small holding, which was perfect for my vision of owning my own skincare business. The small holding also provided me with the valuable space that I wanted to be able to grow my own, flowers, vegetables, herbs and wildflowers that I could use in and on my soap products. It also had a lovely big barn, which was a former kennels and has been a labour of love renovating - but is now aptly named 'The Soap Barn'.

In 2021 the business was officially started and I have spent the last 3 years shaping and defining it. I'm constantly researching new ideas, packaging, etc and working towards the business's goals and vision.

My goals for the business are now to produce sustainable soap and skincare products. I am working towards becoming a Net Zero business and how I can be part of the Circular Economy, turning waste products into skincare accessories, such as unique soap dishes. Future projects include selling to Europe, hosting skincare and soap workshops & courses, offering a Wellness Subscription Box, developing the flower gardens and expanding them, and hopefully employing someone to help me grow the business.

Networking with others and like minded businesses is hugely important to me and I would love to form collaborations and partnerships. Please message me if you think we could help each other.

Most importantly I love hearing from my customers, so if there is anything you would like to chat about, please just get in touch!

Homegrown Botanicals

I love gardening and have combined this passion with creating natural, plant-based skincare products. Using a no-dig approach to gardening I embrace the wonderful qualities of flowers, herbs, fruit, vegetables and yes...even weeds which I like to call herbs and/or wildflowers. Take a look at my new Wildflower Soap Collection, where you can find soaps made with nettles, plantain, calendula, wild gorse and my personal favourite...dandelions!

traditional soap making

At Purple Sage Soap, I use the traditional cold process and direct heat methods. These methods have stood the test of time, offering numerous benefits that set our soaps apart.

The traditional cold process method preserves the integrity of the oils, ensuring they retain their nourishing properties. The direct heat method allows me to maintain control over the soap-making environment, ensuring a consistent and exceptional final product.

Why choose these methods? Both methods allow me to create vegan soaps that are gentle on the skin, cruelty-free, and environmentally friendly!
