Starting a New Chapter: Becoming a Business Coach in My 50s
After founding Purple Sage Soap Company Ltd and navigating the rewarding yet challenging path of entrepreneurship, I’ve now embarked on a new chapter: becoming a business coach. Helping others think about and set up their own businesses has become an extension of my entrepreneurial journey, and I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities this new venture brings.
Why Business Coaching?
Starting my own business later in life taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, strategy, and perseverance. But more than that, it showed me how empowering it is to turn a passion into something sustainable. The more I engaged with other entrepreneurs—whether they were just starting out or looking to pivot—the more I realised how much I could offer through my own experiences.
Business coaching felt like a natural progression. I could help others avoid the pitfalls I encountered, streamline their processes, and guide them through the inevitable highs and lows of starting a business. But more than just offering advice, I’ve found immense satisfaction in empowering others to see their ideas take shape.
The Value of Guidance and Mentorship
Starting a business can feel like navigating uncharted waters, especially if it’s your first venture. There’s so much to consider: finding your niche, understanding your market, building a brand, and handling the financial aspects. What I offer through my business coaching is clarity and structure—a roadmap that breaks down each step of the process.
More importantly, I aim to give my clients the confidence to pursue their ideas. For many, it’s not a lack of ideas or drive holding them back, but uncertainty. Sometimes, you just need someone to help you clarify your vision, to tell you it’s possible, and to work through those lingering doubts.
Why Starting a Business at Any Age is Possible
One of the core messages I aim to share through my coaching is that it’s never too late to start. Whether you’re in your 20s or your 50s, the opportunity to build a successful business is open to anyone with the passion and persistence to make it happen. I’ve lived this truth myself, starting Purple Sage Soap Company in my 50s and now launching my coaching business alongside it.
Entrepreneurship doesn’t have an age limit, and I’m passionate about encouraging others to see the wealth of experience they already have and how it can be translated into business success.
Practical Steps to Starting a Business
In my coaching, I work with individuals to help them think practically about the steps involved in setting up their business. From helping clients refine their ideas to guiding them through their business plans, I ensure that they not only have a vision but also a strategy for executing it.
Some of the areas I cover include:
- Identifying a Niche: How to find that sweet spot between what you’re passionate about and what the market needs.
- Building a Business Plan: Crafting a plan that doesn’t just sound good on paper but is actionable and sustainable.
- Financial Planning: Understanding budgets, pricing strategies, and how to manage cash flow from day one.
- Marketing and Branding: Developing a brand identity that resonates with your target audience and planning for consistent, effective marketing.
- Resilience and Adaptability: How to navigate challenges, adapt to changing circumstances, and keep pushing forward when things don’t go to plan.
Coaching for Personal Growth, Not Just Business Success
Business coaching isn’t just about setting up shop—it’s about personal growth too. In my sessions, I encourage people to reflect on why they want to start their own business. What drives them? What are their goals beyond profit?
The answers to these questions often form the foundation of a resilient and long-lasting business. When your business is aligned with your values and personal goals, it becomes more than just work—it becomes a fulfilling and meaningful venture.
Final Thoughts
Supporting others on their entrepreneurial journeys has been incredibly rewarding. Seeing someone’s idea evolve from a concept to a tangible business is a special kind of magic, and being part of that process is a privilege.
If you’ve ever thought about starting your own business but didn’t know where to begin, or if you’re looking to take your existing business to the next level, I’m here to help you navigate the journey.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to entrepreneurship, but with the right guidance and support, anything is possible.
